Mark earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry from UC San Diego, where he participated in organometallic chemistry research in the laboratory of Professor Joseph O’Connor. He earned a Ph.D. in organic synthesis from The Scripps Research Institute in 2007 under the guidance of Professor Dale Boger. Following his doctoral studies, Mark took a position as a medicinal chemist at Janssen Research & Development, L.L.C. Mark has been a member of the American Chemical Society for 10 years, and has been co-chair of the Younger Chemists Committee of the San Diego Section for the past two years. In 2011, the Younger Chemists Committee earned an Innovative Projects Grant from the American Chemical Society to initiate the “Academics to Industry” seminar series, designed to introduce chemistry graduate students to a career in medicinal chemistry. “Academics to Industry” was presented at The Scripps Research Institute in 2011, at UCSD in 2012, and is planned to continue as a yearly event.
