Erica received her BS in biochemistry from the California State Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, California. Upon completion, she continued her education in Columbus, Ohio, at The Ohio State University, where she received her Ph.D. in organic chemistry under Professor Robert Coleman. After her doctoral work in 2008, Erica moved back to San Diego to work as a postdoctoral fellow under the guidance of Professor Dale Boger. In 2010 she took a medicinal chemistry position at Vertex Pharmaceuticals where she works presently. Since 2011, Erica has been actively involved with the Local Section of ACS. She served as Co-chair of the Younger Chemists Committee (YCC) in 2011 and has served as the Chair of the Women Chemists Committee (WCC) since 2011. As a member of YCC she worked with her co-chairs to launch “Academics to Industryâ€, a local seminar series focused on students who are considering a career in medicinal chemistry. Additionally, through YCC she worked to plan several networking events for local chemists as well as a career training session at UCSD for undergraduates. As WCC chair she has organized several local monthly events, a visit to Monarch School with fellow WCC committee members, and piloted a mentoring program with young high school women through the San Diego Science Alliance BE WISE program. In 2011, she received the SDACS Outstanding Committee Chair of the Year award.
