Job Description

  • MS or PhD in Chemistry or Biochemical Sciences
  • MS with 6+ years or PhD with 2+ year experience of relevant process development and manufacturing experience in the Biotech industry with proven track record of accomplishments in the areas of bio-conjugation processes and protein characterization.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimum instructions from supervisor and implement to completion experimental protocols as they pertain to the duties indicated above
  • Experience working in a cGMP or ISO laboratory environment a bonus


  • Develop new product line of kit reagents using the existing catalogued products.
  • Fill, cap, label, and kit reagent products according to manufacturing instructions. Record filling and kitting events in log in real time.
  • Work with R&D groups to transfer new formulations into production, build pilot lots of material, and create manufacturing documentation.
  • Perform bioconjugation duty independently with a focus on early stage development such as proof of concept and process development of antibody conjugates and/or protein modification processes
  • Proactively participate in the development and implementation of pertinent new technologies as appropriate and as needed
  • Perform antibody conjugations and basic cell culturing to support various manufacturing and R&D needs
  • Support QC testing and release of reagent products as assigned.
  • Write, revise, and implement Equipment Procedures for all equipment; Manufacturing Instructions for new and existing kitting products; and Standard Operating Procedures for standard lab practices.
  • Support QC and R&D with real time and accelerated stability studies as assigned.
  • Order lab supplies and manufacturing materials as needed or directed by Manager. Complete and obtain approval for purchase requisitions. Receive, log, and stock material upon receipt.
  • Follow all established lab procedures both documented and undocumented. Complete all paperwork using good manufacturing practices.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to start immediately in a NIH-funded postdoctoral position to study
structure and mechanisms of transfer-RNA modification enzymes using biochemical and X-ray crystallographic methods.
Prof. Manal Swairjo’s group focuses on structural, functional and mechanistic characterization of tRNA and DNA
modification enzymes and enzyme complexes, and related fundamental problems in molecular evolution and catalysis.
The laboratory is part of a long-standing multi-institutional consortium focused on studying the biosynthesis and
functions of the hypermodified nucleotides of transfer-RNA and understanding their roles in translation.

The postdoctoral position will focus on elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying queuosine
modification of tRNA in eukaryotes using X-ray crystallography, biochemical and biophysical methods. The candidate will
be responsible for cloning, overexpression, purification, biochemical characterization, crystallization, and X-ray crystal
structure determination of protein and protein-RNA complexes, and mutagenesis toward structure-function analysis and
elucidation of enzyme mechanism. The researcher is expected to carry out experiments from molecular biology to a fully
refined structure, and complement structural data with biochemical and biophysical assays. The candidate will interface
with the PI and team of collaborators to complete functional and mechanistic interpretation of results.
The candidate should have a Ph.D. degree (in biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology or related area).
Experience with basic molecular biology, protein and RNA expression and purification, and strong oral and written
communication skills are required. Prior experience in macromolecular X-ray crystallography is desired. This is a full-time
