Chair Notes

Dear ACS Members,

Hope everyone’s 2019 is off to a great start! We had our first Executive Committee Meeting of 2019 on Thursday, January 10th. We had a good turnout to discuss upcoming events and committee positions for this year, as well as outreach activities like Project SEED, a summer research program for underprivileged students in our community, Mad Science programs and new opportunities.

While the February event is sold out, we will work to get more tours scheduled in the coming months – let us know if you are interested. We also have a couple of upcoming seminars in early February that are being co-hosted with CSUSM: Mary Virginia Orna is Chemistry at The College of New Rochelle. She is an ACS Fellow (2010) and a 1984 recipient of the Chemical Manufacturing teaching. She will be giving a seminar on women who were Professor of Association’s Catalyst Award for excellence in college chemistry overlooked for Nobel Prizes for their incredible contributions to our world on Tuesday, February 5th, and a seminar on Wednesday,February 6th. Our next Executive Committee Meeting will take place on Thursday, February 7th, at 6pm. I invite all members who wish to become more involved to please join us. Bring your enthusiasm, your ideas, and your unique talents to help make 2019 an outstanding year for the San Diego Local Section of the ACS!
