Chair Notes

Dear ACS Community,

Call for Nominations! Election is approaching. Please send your biography to Renate Valois, renate@sandiegoacs.org, and self-nominate for a position. Thank you for being an essential volunteer of the ACS! Holding a position in our ACS Local Section Executive Committee will enhance your professional development, build leadership skills, effect change in our local community through outreach, and contribute to the public’s understanding of chemistry.

Staying safe wearing masks and social distancing is the new normal, more than 6 months since Governor Newsom declared a state of emergency because of the pandemic. In the current times, it is even more important to stay connected with other chemists. We can do this in many ways; almost everyone has taken part in online meetings. We have learned to slow the spread of Covid-19. We must wear a mask, physically distance, wash hands often and minimize mixing with large groups of people. Until there is significant change with the population being vaccinated, my goals for the Local Section include the revamping of our online presence and more virtual meetings and events.

Our next Executive Committee Meeting will take place on Thursday, September 3rd, 6 PM, online. In this era of COVID-19 our meetings are now on the web platform “Zoom”. I can give you basic introductory training to get you participating. All you need is a smartphone or computer, microphone, speakers, and Internet service! As always, all members (this means you) who wish to become more involved or experienced with our Local Section are invited to attend. You will need to contact me at jcaldwell@sandiegoacs.org for an invite. Please RSVP so I may add you to the list of attendees.

Thank you,
